Staveley Town Basin is a regeneration project based in Chesterfield, which is designed to boost the local economy and revitalise canal-side activity.
The scheme includes the construction of a new two-storey commercial centre, which will offer a flexible space for small businesses, retail, and food outlets. The development also features a new access road, mooring space, and a 40-metre footpath extension along Hall Lane.
Triton Construction appointed Strategic Fire Protection in early 2025 to install fire stopping systems across the site in full compliance with Firas and LPCB third-party certification standards.
The challenge
The development spans multiple unit types and use cases, each with specific fire protection needs and challenges. With several construction trades working concurrently on-site, coordination and consistency were vital to ensure high-quality fire stopping was installed without delay or oversight.
The client also required transparent documentation to satisfy both regulatory demands and future operational safety protocols.
Our approach
We deployed a certified team to install fire stopping systems throughout the building envelope.
From day one, all operatives followed structured daily procedures using the Onetrace software system - recording pre-start health and safety checks, documenting all installations with photographic evidence, and completing end-of-day site safety reviews.
Each fire seal installation was followed by a quality assurance inspection by the Site Supervisor, which included random destructive testing to verify compliance with manufacturer guidance and third-party certification requirements.
Weekly health and safety inspections were also logged in Onetrace, helping maintain consistent standards across the site. Upon project completion, we used the same system to compile the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) data, which was securely shared with the client via a dedicated digital landing page.
The outcome
Our works were subject to a formal Firas site inspection, which passed with no non-conformances or areas for improvement - a strong endorsement of our standards and process control.
By combining certified workmanship with rigorous documentation and digital traceability, we delivered a compliant, transparent, and future-ready fire protection solution for this exciting mixed-use development.
